Areas of Expertise

Current research efforts include studying how:
• Children plan, fail, and productively persist
• Mixed-reality simulated classroom environments can be used to
help pre-service and in-service teachers practice facilitating
challenging discussions in science and engineering
• Undergraduate teaching assistants address (and may be able to
practice addressing) team conflict within mixed-reality simulated
environments

Pedagogical practices:
• Threading STEM-integrated thematic instruction through coursework
• Incorporating tradebooks into pre-service teacher coursework and children's learning experiences
• Using mixed-reality simulated environments for pre-service teachers to practice facilitating challenging discussions in science and engineering education

Certifications as a Mursion(R) simulation specialist:
• Upper elementary classroom (2021)
• Middle school classroom (2021)
• High school classroom (2022)
• Adult avatars (2021)
